#9 Sea Pens
Weird-looking sea pens (Pennatulacea) are invertebrate marine creatures that live in both deep and shallow water from the tropics to polar seas. They get their nickname from the fact that some of them look, quite literally, like old-fashioned quill pens. Some look quite different to these, though they are just as weird as their namesakes. Generally the central section (or stalk) of this sea animal anchors into the sand, while the rest of it branches upwards. The other weirdly wonderful thing about them is that when they are touched, most sea pens glow or luminesce.
